Water Cycle Exploration

Introducing our young children to various components of Earth will help lay the foundation of information they will learn in the future. As we know, providing a strong foundation to any topic will always be beneficial, especially when it comes to the education of our children. Water play and explorations are great hands-on activities that allow children to experience water and its different properties. Allowing them to use props, toys, etc. adds an extra element of fun and incorporating water in its different states, like liquid and solid, makes for a more engaging activity. My goal is to introduce the concept of the water cycle through water exploration, virtual field trips, and weather observations. This way the children are receiving a full, developmentally appropriate learning experience. As we work through the exploration process, they will be introduced to the important vocabulary words like precipitation and condensation, as well as being given books on the topic to help bring everything together.

This particular topic is important because the process is one that starts off visible to us and moves to a state that we can no longer see, showing the magic of science. The weather observation can be done all year round and show what happens to rain or snow as the temperature and humidity change, depending on the climate. Once the entire experience is complete, the children will be able to see their words and photos of their participation throughout our classroom, as we will be documenting their process with pictures, allowing them to revisit the topic as needed.

Looking forward to sharing the outcomes of this learning experience!
